Cultivated in Mexico since the early 1800s, this chilli pepper was made famous in the US with  the 1868 introduction of the McIlhenny Company's hot pepper sauce, Tabasco. Producing a compact plant from 2' to 4' high, Tabasco is well-suited for container gardening: its pods are 1 1/2" long. Tabasco's fruits start yellow or green and ripen to bright red, Tabasco's distinctive, hot-smoky flavour and its fiery heat make it one of the most recognized and famous of all peppers!                             Heat 9/10         15 seeds  $4

Also known as Bird Peppers or Chiltepins. Shaped more like a berry than a chilli, the Tepin relies on birds to propagate it's seeds. Rarely found cultivated, it grows wild in Southern Texas and throughout Mexico. This chilli has a long history, the word Tepin is from the Nahuatl language of the Aztec Indians. This little pepper is very spicy with a searing heat Tepin Chiles are very hot Don't let their small size deceive you, a little goes a long way. If you love hot chilli, salsa and stews, this is the chilli for you

A super combination of form and function in the garden. Super Chilli bears hot peppers in abundance. Fruits turn from pale green to red with all shades in between. The 3cm peppers are as colourful as a lit Christmas tree, many held above the mounded foliage which grows to about 60cm tall. Super Chilli is easy to grow :  it  germinates  quickly  and  yields       exceptionally well. This Chilli will be thrilled to grow in a container on the patio. These peppers are hot and may be used fresh or dried at any stage of maturity.

From Barbados, this large plant produces three-sided peppers which resemble a Bishop's Crown . Sometimes called Fryers Hat or Monks Hat also known as Peri-Peri. unusually shaped fruit of 1-1.5 inches long by 2-3 inches wide. Pods mature from light green to orange to red. The native real name is "Shipkas," but their adoptive name best describes these 3 1/2 inch bright, fluorescent orange peppers. Carrot chiles are quite hot but with a fruitiness to their pungency. Bulgarian Carrot chile plants are just 18 inches tall and the bright thin-walled chiles grow in clusters close to the main stems protecting them from sunburn. .

Jalapenos’ are one of the best-known chilli peppers and are used worldwide. The Jalapeno’s are about 5cm long, have a conical shape, and range from a medium to dark green in colour, turning red when ripe. Ranging from hot to very hot with a green vegetable flavour,  As with most chillies, the heat is concentrated in the seeds and ribs. Remove all or some of these parts to lessen the heat.

The Diablo Chilli is a small Bullet Shaped Chilli, Very Juicy with medium heat and a sweet flavour. Maturing in 9 – 11 weeks the fruit ripens from Green to a glossy Bright Red, a heavy producer. Pre-Columbian in origin and named after the Cayenne River in French Guyana, it owes it spread around the world to Portugal whose traders carried it around the world in the 15th & 16th centuries. There are now a multitude of varieties available with differing fruit lengths, thicknesses and heat levels. Most grows 4 to 6 inches long, are thin fleshed and can be eaten green or yellow. They attain maximum heat however if they are left to ripen on the bush. This is a chilli with a lot of bite (Scoville units  50,000 – 100,000). They are great in cooking and have a sweet taste about them. They are great for making sweet chilli sauce. The chilli  grows well in large pots and also grows well in the ground. It will reach 1.5m to 2m tall. The fruit will grow to around 10cm long and there will be many. An heirloom chilli from Hungary, the Hot Wax is also known as Hot Banana .Great for stuffing or frying. Chilli’s develop from green - to yellow - to red and are often picked and eaten in the yellow stage (hotter if left to ripen to red). Plant grows to 60-90 cm and is a heavy producer. These large, mild chili’s are perfect for stuffing.  Mexican cooks also like to dice or purée them, and then add them to sauces, soups, and casseroles.  They have a tough skin, but it peels off easily if you first char the chilies over a flame and then steam them in a paper bag for several minutes.  Anaheims are available year-round, but they're best in the summer.   When mature and red, an Anaheim is called a chili colorado = California red chili.   Grows from seed to a whopping 20cm fruit in under 80 days

the Cayenne derived its name from the Tupi Indians of the Cayenne district of French Guiana, from whence the Portuguese transported it to Asia around 1500AD. It no longer grows in French Guiana. The Cayenne chile is long and thin with a sharp point, and there are numerous varieties ranging in size from 20 cm long by 2 cm wide, down to miniature size (see Thai Miniature) as little as 1.25 cm long by 3 mm wide. The varieties used prolifically in Indian cookery are generally between 10 cm and 5 cm in length. More of a tree-like than bush plant, growing to three feet high and two feet wide. These are 5—6cm beauties are bizarre as they seem to flower and fruit nearly all year. The plants grow to about 40 cm in pots are really bushy and are filled with heaps  of chilli’s. They have a tangy fruity flavour with a bit of a kick.

Ping is an early maturing chilli with pendant ”cherry” shaped fruit. The plant grows to about 1 metre .Fruits are green turning red on maturity. They are ideal for pickling, Asian cooking or can be used fresh. They aren’t as hot as a lot of others , so if you prefer the Milder chilli’s this 1 is for you.

 A variety from Venezuela, Plant produces good yields of 5-7cm hot chilli’s. they are very hot and grow upright. They turn from green, to black, to a bright red when mature. They grow like the clappers and I had to prune mine to keep it down and its in a Pot, a great producer and looks cool as has furry stems and the colour change through black is outstanding.

The Malaguata a chilli from Brazil. Closely related to the birdseye. They are small 1-2cm long and narrow they taper to a point. The plant produces heaps of pods and goes long into winter still producing. The pods don't taste that great but have a stingy burn that goes for 5 min or so. The plants grow to a roundish bush, mine in pots are 50cm or so. A Great little plant

The serrano chilli is a type of chili that originated in the mountainous regions of the Mexican states of Puebla and Hidalgo. Unripe serranos are green, and they mature to a bright red. they are very meaty and thus they do not dry very well.  A good producer  and one of the best for Salsa’s
