Dorset Naga, It was originally selected from Naga Morich, a chilli that is highly regarded among Britain’s Bangladeshi community and is widely available in shops catering to their culinary needs. In the summer of 2005, a sample of Dorset Naga was collected and subsequently tested for heat by two laboratories in the USA. The average of the two results, measured in Scoville Heat Units (SHU), was an astounding 923,000 SHU. Confirming the 2005 results, The 2006 crop of Dorset Naga was measured and came out to be 960,000 SHU.

The Plants are shorter and bushier than the Morich and produce slightly less fruit than the morich, They also display 2 pedicels per node

In 2004, Assam-based pepper grower Frontal Agritech  had their Bih Jolokia chiles HPLC-tested and reported 1,041,427 SHU, ok that’s Hot, so we had to get them and now you can too..

Bih jolokia, botanically known as Capsicum chinense Jacq. is extensively cultivated in North Eastern Region of India especially in the states of Assam, Nagaland and Manipur. The Plants grow to well over 1 meter, and has HEAPS of fruit that Turn from a light green through a beautiful Orange maturing to a Bright Red.

Naga Morich meaning 'snake or serpent Chilli is an apt name for this ferociously hot variety. It is believed to be closely related to its Indian cousin, the Bhut jolokia and Bih Jolokia. The thin walled wrinkled pods have a high degree of variability in shape although they are generally wedge shaped, they average about 5cm long by 2.5cm wide. They ripen from a rich green through to yellow/orange and finally to a rich red approximately 120 days after transplanting. Plants are large and bushy, growing to 1mtr tall. Leaves are ovate in shape and pale green in colour.  It is used sparingly (and with great care!) in Bengali cookery and is thought to originate from Northern Bangladesh.

Naga Morich

Dorset Naga

Bih Jolokia

Bhut Jolokia

We Have established Already that the Morich and the Dorset are same The Dorset was selected from morich and bred to Become the Dorset Naga. They show the same characteristics as each other , both with 2 pedicels per node and with a main internodal spacing of 7.5cm.. The only differences I see between the 2 are , the Morich grows taller and produces More / Slightly smaller fruits, whereas the Dorset is more compact , produces Less fruit , but the fruits are bigger .. The Taste of the Dorset is Orangeish/pineappleish ,, if you ate a Yellow and Orange habanero at the same time, that’s the Taste. Than add the heats of those together Triple it, and that’s the Heat,, INSANE..

Both Assamese growers and the Chile Pepper Institute found top heat levels around one million Scoville Heat Units (SHU),

The elongated fruits are 5 to 8.5 cm in length, 2.5 to 3 cm in diameter (at shoulder), with an undulating surface. We noticed that fruit shape also seems to differ a bit. Fruits mature from green to bright red. Growing conditions are similar to the Habanero and other C. chinense varieties. Days from transplanting to Maturity: 90 days green, 120 days or more for red ripe pods (caution: the pods can already be very hot while still green).

Chocolate Bhut Jolokia

A Chocolate Variation of the Bhut Jolokia, a wild strain found by Frontal Agritech in Assam india. The Plants can grow to between 1—2 metres and the Pods themselves 5-8 cm in length, 2-3 cm wide.

Outstanding Looking Plant be it in Pots or Ground.

Heat level ,, As hot as the Normal Bhut and Tastes the same too, excruciatingly HOT

Naga Jolokia or  PC-1

A lot of people call this a naga  and that’s how I bought it, But its actually a Frutescens Type, The Others are Chinenese.. This is the PC –1 as most call it and its not that Hot as People Claim, in fact its heat is bout 8/10 with a good solid burn, tastes capsicumish with slight appleish Undertones.

The Plant grows to bout a Metre tall and produces Heaps of chilli's   5-7 cm long , 1cm wide

A Genetic Comparison of “Bhut Jolokia” and “Bih Jolokia” the hottest chillies on Earth.

Thesis:

Literature Review and Research Paper

Faculty of Agriculture

The University of Sydney

23th October 2009

Conclusions:

* “Bhut Jolokia” and “Bih Jolokia” have different genetic structure based on comparison of DNA fragment and sequence data using 3 molecular techniques employed across six of the 12 Capsicum chromosomes.

* “Bih Jolokia” genetic structure is highly homologous with C.chinense and C.frutescens species whereas “Bhut Jolokia” is structurally more closely linked with C.annuum species.

* Reduced crop load in “Bhut Jolokia” as compared with “Bih Jolokia” may be linked to genetic self incompatibility.

* Continued research comparing such varieties and their closely related native landraces will prove to be vital in understanding evolutionary relationships that may be useful in overcoming agricultural barriers such as crop yield for such varieties.

NagaBon Jolokia

Hailing from the Central Coast of N.SW Australia comes the Nagabon, a chinense type that is the result of a cross between a Bih Jolokia for Heat & The Scotch Bonnet for size and flavour. The Plant grow like a Bih to well over a metre and pods up like a bonnet with heaps of pods weighing over 10 gms, the pods look like big fat naga's and turn from a green to a bright red. Heat wise, just under Naga heat But intense a Great producer of hot Pods
