"THE TEMPLE MOUNT"

Western WallWestern Wall The Temple Mount
in Jerusalem
site of Jewish temples in Biblical Times and the Dome of the Rock and Al Aqsa mosque today, may be in danger of collapse, according to Archaeologist Shimon Gibson.

According to report in Christianity Today, April 6, 1998 by Gordon Govier, the temple mount has a network of 49 cisterns under the 11-acre platform, which have been neglected for decades. Shimon Gibson maintains that cracks have appeared in walls of the compound.

According to Gibson, water may be settling into the cracks and deteriorating the limestone.

Most archaeologists and Muslim authorities do not share his view, even though Gibson believes a collapse could occur anytime.

Dome of the Rock

Of particular concern is the Muslim season of Ramadan, when the area will be filled with thousands of worshipers every Friday.

The Jews have long awaited for the day when they can rebuild their Temple and logistically, it would be possible to rebuild the Temple on the Temple Mount adjacent to the Dome of the Rock mosque.

Thomas Ice, Executive Director of the Pre-Trib Research Center in Washington, D.C. says that the construction of the temple is "politically impossible" today. "But it was politically impossible for the Jews to return to their land, and it happened."
